Understanding the Impact of GenAI and Automation on Sports Production

Plenary
Automation has been utilised in sports production and broadcasting for many years, but the rapid growth of AI and GenAI has accelerated this trend. Broadcasters are now increasingly turning to AI production to enable lower tier sports to be televised at a cost-effective price point. Affordable off-the-shelf AI camera and software systems can now capture high-quality, reliable, consistent action from the pitch, complete with data overlays and replays, with very limited human involvement. And AI is able to create compelling, personalised match highlights featuring selected players and different types of action (corners, goals, offsides, etc), within minutes of a match finishing. Furthermore, GenAI is now being incorporated into content platforms, further elevating their feature sets and human-like production capabilities. This session discusses what's possible now, and what the immediate future holds for sports producers as GenAI and automation continues its rapid evolution.
