Pete Andrews
Pete began his career at Central TV in Birmingham in 1997 working on ITV’s network Champions League coverage and local programmes in the midlands. His first major tournament was the 2000 Euros in Amsterdam for ITV and he worked on the Sydney and Athens Olympics for EBU as an assistant producer. While at ITV Pete directed his first Premier league football match at 26 years old before going freelance for a year and then joining the BBC in 2004.
While at the BBC he worked on the Football World Cups in Germany and South Africa and the Euros in Vienna. When the BBC relocated to Salford in 2011, Pete became the series Director of Football Focus and directed the first ever live broadcast from the Dock 10 studio. He directed live coverage from 1-4pm on BBC 1 for the 2012 Olympics in London and iconic studio programmes such as Match of the Day. Turning his attention back to Outside Broadcasts Pete took over the direction of the Boat Race and London Marathon start in 2015 before leading the rowing coverage for OBS at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. He directed presentation at the British Open Golf and became lead producer on the FA Cup. In 2016 Pete took on the role of Lead court director at Wimbledon and directed four Wimbledon finals including Andy Murray’s second championship victory over Milos Raonic. After 14 years at the BBC and having directed around 150 premier league matches, Pete relocated to Channel 4 as Head of Sport.
In 6 years at Channel 4 he has presided over ground-breaking deals to bring the Cricket World cup final in 2019 and Emma Raducanu’s US Open triumph to the Channel thanks to late deals with Sky Sports and Amazon. He also secured deals for Formula 1, England Men’s football, International Rugby, Test Cricket (the first on terrestrial for 16 years) and the first ever terrestrial live Super League match. In 2024 he led the coverage of the Paris Paralympics, including the drive to increase participation in disability sport. This year Channel 4 have added to their portfolio by landing live coverage of the men’s Euro U21’s football tournament (won by England), the Women’s FA Cup and most recently the Boat Race which debuts on Channel 4 in 2026. He also looks after Crufts which is fun but not a sport!
